
British Grenadier Guards, veterans of the Boer War
In the Boer War, the Grenadier Guards bore the brunt of
the fighting in South Africa. This picture shows them
marching in front of Buckingham Palace. The Prince
of Wales, first in line to the throne, is a member of this
regiment.

British Indian Infantry
This regiment comprises the famous Bengal Lancers from
the Ganges, Mahrata infantrymen and Sikhs and Ghurkas from the
Himalayas. They wear their characteristic turbans and
their officers are Englishmen. They have shown their
courage against the Germans and are wonderful bayonet fighters
in close combat.

The barge is used to carry horses and guns to the
transport ship. This regiment is disembarking for battle
in France. The artilleryman is dressed in khaki, the
others are sailors in the British Navy.

British Artillery at the battle of the Marne
The British artillery is firing 18 pound ordinance and
can shoot faster and farther than the German Krupp guns.
The caliber is 3.3 inches and they have a muzzle velocity of
1,600 feet per second. There are six guns in a battery and
each can fire at a rate of 29 shots per minute.
