Hauling Cotton to market on the Square
At one time, Troup County produced 25,000 bales of cotton a year until the boll weevel ruined cotton farming.  Bales were taken to the square and sometimes production exceeded the warehouse space and bales of cotton were lined on the sidewalks until buyers could haul them away.
