LaGrange Sanitarium in 1915
Originally known as Slack Sanitarium, it was named
after Dr. Henry R. Slack. It was located at the corner of
Church and W. Haralson Streets, (today, Gay & Joseph CPA
occupies this site). It was later renovated and renamed
Dunson Hospital.

This postcard is the most valuable in my collection
because it is signed by Dr. Henry R. Slack, the founder of
LaGrange's first hospital. The inscription says, "Wishing
you a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthful New Year, Your
Friend, Henry R. Slack."

1937, it had 68 beds. It was jointly owned by the City of

Mission of the Good Shepherd Hospital in S. W.
LaGrange
This hospital was owned and operated by Callaway Mills
for the benefit of its' employees. Costs to employees were
restricted to room and board, not the medical attention they
received. The postcard stated, "Christian workers comprise
the administrative and hospital staff and are constantly
striving to help practically and spiritually".
