
S. W. LaGrange Y.M.C.A. on Dallis St.
This facility, financed by Callaway Mills for its'
employees, operated under the auspices of the Young Men's
Christian Association, but also included a wing for women and
girls. The building contained a large gymnasium, social
and game rooms, committee and class rooms, reading rooms, a
banquet hall and a pool for teaching swimming lessons. It
was located near the corner of Dallis St. and Forrest Ave.

Calumet Community Center on Hines St.
Originally built as the Community House of the
International Cotton Mills, it was near the Calumet Plant of
Callaway Mills. Calument Plant was originally called
International Cotton Mills. This card was postmarked in
1929.

The Swimming Pool in S. W. LaGrange
This pool was provided by Callaway Mills for their
employees. Callaway Mils also provided
theatres, ballparks, kindergartens, art classes, music, dance
and more.

Callaway Auditorium on Dallis St. in LaGrange
This fine building, built in 1942, served as the main
meeting site for LaGrange for years and was just across the
street from Callaway Stadium. It had a stage for
performances and the floor was also used for recreational
activities such as basketball, etc. The hallway was
dedicated to those area citizens who served in the armed forces
of the United States. It was donated to LaGrange College
in 1992 and was extensively renovated in 2005.

City Pool on Smith St. at Church St.
This facility was constructed in 1935 under the W.P.A.,
(Works Progress Administration) of the federal government.
It was operated in recent years by the Troup County Parks and
Recreation Dept., but was permanently closed in 2007 due to the
extensive cost of renovation of the facility.

Truitt Opera House on Main St. in LaGrange
This facility was located at the S.E. Corner of Court
Square at the corner of Main St. and what is now LaFayette
Parkway. A park with a large flagpole was been at this
site for the last 15 years.

McClendon's Pond on Springdale
This park and swimming lake was fed by an Artesian
well. It was originally part of the property that Bellevue
was constructed on. The small lake was located at the
bottom of what is now Springdale Dr.

Confederate Cemetery on Miller St.
LaGrange was on a major railroad line during the Civil
War, so many wounded Confederates were brought to LaGrange to
recuperate from battle wounds. 300 Confederate soldiers
from the Army of Tennessee are buried in this cemetery.

Greyhound Bus Station - LaGrange, GA.
