
Bibb Mill
Bibb Mill was one of the earliest manufacturing plants
in Columbus and was powered by the dam operated by the Columbus
Power Company. This mill was destroyed by a spectacular
fire in late October, 2008.

Georgia Home Building
This building was owned by the Georgia Home Insurance
Company, but was also known locally as the "Iron Bank", since it
was constructed of pre-fabricated iron. It housed the
First National Bank. This postcard was postmarked in 1908.
This building appeared on a .50 paper currency bill issued by
the Bank of Columbus in 1862.

Clapp Factory
This card was postmarked in 1908. It shows
the Clapp Factory in the north Highlands area of Columbus.
This factory was locally known as the "Old Mill" and got its
power from a water wheel on the Chattahoochee. The factory
was built in 1837 and rebuilt in 1866, it closed in 1885 and was
destroyed by fire in 1910.

Columbus Iron Works
This postcard was postmarked in 1910 and it also
showed two of Columbus' riverboats than moved goods up and
down the Chattahoochee in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
This building is now the Columbus Iron Works and Convention and
Trade Center. This postcard shows the riverboats "Queen
City" and the "W.C. Bradley".

Factory worker's children bringing
lunch to their parents
This rare card shows children bringing lunch to
their parents in the mills, a common occurrence. The card
had the caption on the front, "Lunch time at the factory,
Columbus, GA".

Ledger-Enquirer Building
Built in 1931, it still houses the offices of
the local Columbus newspaper.

Eagle & Phenix Mills
Once noted as the largest cotton mill in the
south, it also shows the 14th St. bridge over the Chattahoochee
river.
