The building was built in 1856, the monument constructed in 1873 to commemorate the 24 church members who died during service in the Civil War.

Postmarked in 1951, the postcard states it was organized in 1804 and the building was dedicated in 1812.  President Woodrow Wilson worshipped here from 1858 to 1870 while his father was the pastor.
